I was at court on 1/13/2010 and I wanted to take my personal use Glock 23 up to the range for a little shoot time (Police/Court in the same building)...Well, there is an on-going issue with my gun as well as the entire department's Glock 22. It will not cycle faithfully with an accessory light attached to the rail. This is an issue with both the Glock 22 and 23. (see this article by Streamlight - CLICK HERE)

Anyways, I was up at the range and the range officer received a call. He asked me to help him carry some boxes up from the front desk. We went down and grabbed four decent sized boxes and carried them back up to the range. He opened one up and there was a small black box with the words "GLOCK" across the front...I knew what it was because we knew that we were going to be issued new duty weapons soon.

The Generation 4 Glock 22 was inside the box...It is mostly standard Glock...Looks the same to those not used to carrying one. Well, the new Glock comes with two extra interchangeable back straps. The smallest one is already on the gun and you can choose two larger sizes. The biggest one fit me the best. There is a new and larger magazine catch. The recoil spring is of the dual recoil spring system and it is tight. The grip is the RTF grip. Other than that, not much seems different...I wish that I could have shot it but the range officer had more work to do with them before they could be shot. Shouldn't be too long now.

It is my hope that the issue with the tactical light is resolved with these new guns as Glock has promised. We were issued the Surefire X300 light along with a Safariland holster over a year ago. The problems popped up immediately and we were transitioned back to the old Alessi holsters and had to return the lights. It is not a problem with just our department, as the Streamlight article outlines. It only seems to be happening with the 40 cal Glocks though.

I have the Insight Technologies light for my Glock 31 (.357 Sig). Never had any cycling problems with it.
When I was with NMDG&F, holsters weren't a problem. We weren't allowed to carry the light mounted on the firearm. Seems the hand-wringers in administration were worried that we would be pointing firearms at objects/animals/people we had no intention of shooting, by using the light. Never mind that if we were in a situation where we had our firearm drawn, the officer believed there was some object/animal/person that might need to be shot! Also never mind that we were trained not to put our fingers on the trigger until we were going to actually shoot!
Only change I found with the mounted light was that I had to aim slightly higher. The additional weight of the light would slow the rise of the barrel in recoil just enough to cause it to hit low.
I've heard that NMDG&F has traded in their Glock 31s for Glock 22s. It's a shame. .357 Sig was a great choice for rural law enforcement officers. All because of a few cracked slides.....

As far as I know and have read, the tactical light issue only reared it's ugly head on the 40 cal Glocks...The 357 Sig was not mentioned in the article.

Got to love the hand wringers...What would they expect you to do if you had to cuff someone and you had that light on your gun? Can't put it back in your holster... :bigthink:

I have Insight Tech on my Glock 22 Gen 2. Never had a hiccup. The Stramlight on the G21SF works great.

I think the G22 does'nt like the weight of the Streamlight.

It happens with both the Streamlight TLR1 and the Surefire X300...Never tried others.
