Linda, Maya & I spent a few days camping and squirrel hunting in the San Mateo Mountains southwest of Magdalena NM. Had a great time. Weather was beautiful...high 70s during the day, and mid 40s at night.
This was the first time I've had the opportunity to hunt squirrels with my .32 Traditions Crockett Rifle. Very impressed with this little caplock rifle! For as inexpensive as they are, they are tackdrivers!
This was Maya's first squirrel hunt. Didn't take her long to get the idea of what was going on. When she would see a squirrel, she would whine then take off after it, chasing it up a tree. We had to watch her, as once she lauched herself from the Jeep's window in pursuit! She would even retrieve the dead squirrel.

We ended up with 14 Tassle-earred Squirrels (also known as Abert's Squirrels) in 2 days of hunting (ok....lots of sightseeing too, but will tell about that on another forum).

Here's a picture of Maya and I with our first squirrel...

Sounds like you had a lot of fun and yes, nice weather.

That looks like a big squirrel.

Thanks for sharing.
